In the region, there are 52,266 people with an academic degree,
including around 26,000 students at the University of Osnabrück
and Hochschule Osnabrück, with over 1,500 participating in international exchange programs.

Additionally, there are several research institutes, such as the
German Institute of Food Technologies (DIL), an industrial research
institute in Quakenbrück with more than 150 member companies
from the fields of food production, mechanical engineering and
process engineering.
The region has established itself as a significant hub for Artificial
Intelligence (AI). With the presence of the German Research Center
for Artificial Intelligence (DFKI) in Osnabrück, one of Germany‘s
leading AI research institutes, the area benefits from innovative
projects and collaborations between academia and industry.
