Charité - Universitätsmedizin Berlin

Rethinking Health
Charité – Universitätsmedizin Berlin integrates research, translation, healthcare and education: research findings are transferred into clinical practice and knowledge is passed on to physicians, healthcare professionals and society as a whole.
Charité strives to use a holistic approach to wellbeing, centring the Human Ecosystem. This describes the relations of humans with their physical and social environment. Consequently, Urban Development is also of medical interest. The overall vision is to rethink health.
Astrid Lurati - Direktorin des Klinikums
In our own construction projects, we implement the principles of Healing Architecture to promote wellbeing for patients, for our employees and students. However, as our own structures are embedded in the urban infrastructure, cities should transform into a health-supportive and sustainable physical environment. This requires strong efforts, including smart cross-sectoral coordination and cooperation.
1.    Charité is the second largest employer in Berlin (over 20,000 employees) with three large clinical campuses and one scientific campus
2.    Around 150,000 stationary and 680,000 ambulatory patients are treated at Charité every year – a medical, but also a logistical challenge
3.    Innovative mobility comprises co-operations with transport companies but also new ways in clinical logistics, e.g. drones for lab samples
